UPDATE: 8-14-18 10:00 a.m.

Lexington Park, MD – On August 13, 2018, at approximately 9:24 P.M. law enforcement and emergency medical personnel responded to the 18000 block of Three Notch Road, in the area of Bay Forest Road in Lexington Park, for the report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.  Upon arrival the pedestrian was found deceased.  The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit responded and continued the investigation.

Initial investigation determined Richard Lee Summers Jr., age 50 of Lexington Park, was walking in the northbound lane of Three Notch Road, while partially covered with a dark blanket.  Summers was struck by a 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport Minivan operated by a 32-year-old Lexington Park woman.  The driver continued to her residence after striking Summers, believing she had struck a deer. The driver determined it was possible a pedestrian had been struck, and 911 was contacted to report the collision.  The driver did not report any injuries from the collision. 

At this time, alcohol and Summers being illegally in the roadway, appear to be contributing factors in the collision.

Dameron, MD – Three Notch Road was reopened shortly before 1 a.m. No names have been released at this time and the incident remains under investigation. A police report is pending.

UPDATE 9:49 p.m.

Dameron, MD – Authorities at the scene of an incident in which a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle have confirmed that the pedestrian has died. The incident was reported at around 9:30 p.m. on Three Notch Road in the area of Bay Forest Road. St. Mary’s County authorities reported at 9:48 p.m. that Three Notch Road between Toms Way and Hill House Farm Lane is closed to traffic. Motorists should take an alternate route until further notice.

At this time there are no reports of any other injuries.

Lexington Park, MD – At 9:30 p.m. authorities in St. Mary’s County reported an accident in which a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle. The incident occurred on Three Notch Road in the area of Bay Forest Road. Motorists should avoid the area until further notice.
