As the Student Board Member, Shah, who served as president of theย student governmentย this past school year, works with a student liaison committee throughout the school year. The following students were selected as members of the student liaison committee:
Jessica Mundi, La Plata is also the alternate student BoE member; Diane Berringer, McDonough; Tiara Brown,ย Lackey; Alina Duchak, Westlake; Caitlin Floyd, Thomas Stone; and Cailyne Skym, North Point.
Each CCPS high school has a student liaison and selected by methods approved by that school’sย student governmentย and principal. Each liaison can apply as a candidate for the position of Student Board Member by submittingย an essay about a student concern and possible solution. The essays are evaluated and candidates are interviewed by a committee of students and advisors. The liaison with the highest combined score on the essay plus interview is named the Student Board Member.
Theย Charles County Association of Student Councils (CCASC) consists of student leaders from the countyโs six high schools. Theyย meet throughout the year to discuss issues and concerns, as well as provide input to school system leaders on programs and policies.
The following students were selected as the CCASC officers for 2007-08:
Tiara Cunningham, Thomas Stone,ย president; William Le, Thomas Stone, first vice president; Bradley Tipper, La Plata, second vice presiden; Chandra Thompson, Thomas Stone,ย secretary; and Alphonso Gaston Lopez, Mattawoman, middle school representative.
Each high school canย send 15 delegates to CCASC monthly meetings. Each middle school can send 10 delegates. Schools develop their own methods for selecting CCASC delegates. Each year, the CCASC officers are elected by the delegatesย for the April meeting.
