WASHINGTON, D.C. — Awesome Con took over the Walter E. Washington Convention Center from March 13–15, 2026, drawing thousands for a high-energy weekend filled with cosplay, celebrity guests and family-friendly fun.
From the start, the convention floor buzzed with excitement as families, friends and fans arrived in costume. Parents and kids dressed up together, turning the event into a colorful, shared experience that felt just as much about community as it did fandom.
Fans lined up to meet a wide range of celebrity guests, including Jamie Campbell Bower, known for Vecna in “Stranger Things”, along with Gillian Anderson, George Takei, Ron Perlman and Misha Collins. Panels and autograph sessions kept crowds moving throughout the weekend as attendees got the chance to interact with their favorite stars.

A major highlight came with appearances from the “Firefly” cast, including Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin and Summer Glau. During a panel at the convention, Fillion shared that an animated “Firefly” series is in advanced development, with plans to continue the story within the original timeline set between the 2002 television series and the 2005 film “Serenity”.
The announcement quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the weekend, with excitement spreading beyond the convention floor. Reports described the project as something fans had been waiting decades to see, with expectations that much of the original cast will return to voice their characters.
The series is being developed through Fillion’s production company in partnership with 20th Television Animation, with early work underway alongside an award-winning animation studio. The news also highlighted the strength of the franchise’s longtime fan base — often called “Browncoats” — which has continued to support the series for more than 20 years.

Across the convention, artist alleys, vendor booths and gaming areas kept attendees exploring for hours. Whether it was finding unique artwork, spotting detailed cosplay or catching a panel, there was always something happening.
By Sunday, many attendees had already left, talking about next year.
Awesome Con is set to return to Washington, D.C., from April 23–25, 2027, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. More details on guest announcements, panels and schedules for 2027 are expected in the coming months. Learn more at awesome-con.com
