LEONARDTOWN, Md. – On Wednesday, May 1st, local rock band The Deadrise will open for Plush at The Rex Theatre. The Deadrise band is composed of three local musicians: Sammy Hastings (lead vocals), Joey Hastings (drummer), and Max Tucker (guitar). Although they started the band years ago, they’ve been on a hiatus; this performance is their debut back into the music scene of Southern Maryland.

All three members have known each other since high school and are more like family than friends. With their combined talent, this band was destined to be. Cutting their teeth with other performers like Robbie Boothe, the trio came together to write and perform their own original songs.

Self-proclaimed “music nerds” feel as though they’ve been guided to this point by a higher power. With parental and community musical influences, it seems like perhaps they are correct.

The Deadrise is especially excited to share the singles “I Won’t Be Shaken” and “Emotionally Illiterate” once they hit the stage.

Praying together before each performance and then losing themselves to the dream of sharing their gifts with as many people as possible gives them a drive and purpose.

They’re from Southern Maryland, so why not pursue country music? Tucker explained, “We like to rock. It’s more organic for us and it can be edgier and cover a wider range of topics. We can play with verse versus chorus formats and be loud, passionate and on fire. While we love country, rock allows us this liberty.”

Ultimately, they want their audience to be moved by every performance and be able to change lives within the community. They also want their fans to know that they greatly look forward to coming back live and seeing all the friendly, familiar faces.
