The youth, an alleged burglar, seems proud of his drinking prowess, indeed it may have been one of the factors in his arrest, since intoxication could explain why a burglar would leave on the victim’s computer a cached internet search of his own name and his MySpace homepage.
But dressed in prisoners black-and-white uniform, hands shackled, the 19-year-old three-generation St. Mary’s native presented a heart-wrenching scene in the court of Judge John Slade Friday afternoon.
“Just for a drinking citation,” responded a nervous Justin Suite of Mechanicsville when Judge Slade asked if he had had any problems with the law in the past. The title of his page on MySpace.com indicates the youth might have been overpowered by alcohol.
Suite was presented before Judge Slade for bail review after being charged with two counts of first degree burglary and two counts of thefts at the home of a distant relative.
According to Maryland State Police officer R. Gill on Wednesday March 7 he responded to the Mary Dixon Lane home of a victim for a reported burglary. The victim advised Gill just a few days earlier he had reported a burglary to St. Mary’s Sheriff’s SDFC K. Somerville that occurred between Feb. 28 and March 2, 2007. The manโs Mossberg Maverick 12 Gauge shotgun, a Nextel 1760 cell phone and U.S. currency ($509) had been taken from his home. After the initial report, the victim believes that a pair of his Reebok athletic shoes also went missing.
The victim told Gill he found Internet sites on his computer that neither he nor his wife ever visited. He stated there was a Google search of the suspect’s name as well his Myspace.com web page.
“Welcome $till de champion of beer$” was the title of Suite’s homepage that shows the youth in a group of seven youngsters, most of them posing in sign language. The suspect visited his home page last on Thursday, a search made by The Bay Net showed. As of Monday morning the profile had been set to private, a personal message reading โJustinโs locked up, leave him some love.โ
The victim stated that he was at the Korner Karryout convenience store on Wednesday when approximately at 3:30 p.m. he saw Suite wearing the shoes that matched the ones that were stolen from his home.
The victim said he confronted the suspect and asked, “So you are wearing them?” making no direct mention of the shoes, upon which the suspect allegedly responded, “Man I bought these shoes.” After the exchange the victim contacted St. Mary’s DFC E. Trossbach who contacted the suspect’s mother, but she told police that she had bought the shoes forย her sonย as a Christmas gift.
The victim told Gill he and the suspect are distant relatives and that the suspect had stayed at his home for about one week more than three months ago.
The victim alleged that the suspect could have freely entered his home as the three big guard dogs knew him, according to Gill’s report. The victim further said the suspect had allegedly been sleeping in the barn on the family’s property over the past few weeks as he had no fixed address.
