WALDORF, Md. — An Alexandria, Virginia man was arrested after deputies say he concealed more than $175 worth of merchandise inside a boxed cabinet at a Waldorf home improvement store.
Eugenio Espinoza-Nicolas, 42, of Alexandria, Virginia, was charged with theft between $100 and $1,500 in connection with a Feb. 26, 2026 incident at the Home Depot on Jefferson Farm Place, according to court documents.
Deputies with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the store at approximately 10:30 p.m. for a reported theft in progress. A loss prevention employee reported observing Espinoza-Nicolas conceal miscellaneous merchandise and pass all points of sale without paying.
According to the Statement of Probable Cause, store security observed Espinoza-Nicolas place a large box containing a hollow sink base cabinet into a shopping cart. He then opened the box and placed numerous miscellaneous merchandise items inside the hollow cabinet space. Clear tape was used to reseal the box before he proceeded to the self-checkout area.
At self-checkout, Espinoza-Nicolas scanned and paid for the sink base cabinet by scanning the exterior of the cardboard box but did not scan or pay for the concealed items inside, deputies reported. Loss prevention personnel stopped him in the parking lot as he was transporting the items toward his vehicle.
Upon inspection, deputies located multiple concealed items totaling $175.53 inside the hollow cabinet. The items had not been purchased.
Espinoza-Nicolas was placed under arrest and transported to the Charles County Detention Center for processing.
He was released on his own recognizance on Feb. 27, 2026.
A hearing is set for April 14, 2026 in Charles District Court.

He’ll either walk away with charges dropped or get 6 months probation. For some reason thieves don’t get prosecuted anymore in blue states. That’s another reason prices continue to go up.
You’re an idiot
Yo Jo, does the truth hurt?
Although red states more often appear at the top of murder rate and violent crime lists, there have been a number of independent studies on overall crime rates in red and blue states, and the general conclusion is this: There is an absence of empirical evidence that either blue or red states have a meaningful difference in overall crime. The inference that partisanship is a predictor of crime is unsubstantiated. So, $Bla…, you are incorrect.
