UPDATE – 12/4/2025 – Body Of Missing Chesapeake Beach Fisherman Found Near Taylors Island

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — Authorities are searching for Lonnie Johnson, owner of G-Eye Jigs, who set out Thursday afternoon, Nov. 13, 2025, to fish the radar towers off Chesapeake Beach and has not returned.

Emergency crews were dispatched at around 8:50 a.m. Friday to reports of an unoccupied vessel and a possible person in the water near Feather Lane in Talbot County.

The search area shifted south into Dorchester County after friends tracking a phone signal located Johnson’s boat still running in Slaughter Creek near Taylors Island, authorities said. By 9:25 a.m., the vessel was under tow, but Johnson’s whereabouts remained unknown. Investigators believe the boat drifted from Chesapeake Beach, Calvert County.

Maryland Natural Resources Police and the U.S. Coast Guard have taken over the investigation and search operations.

Johnson was reportedly operating an early-2000s Parker 21SE center-console. He is believed to be wearing camouflage cold-weather gear similar to clothing seen in a recent photo shared by family.

Boaters in the Chesapeake Bay and lower Choptank/Slaughter Creek areas are urged to keep watch for any sign of Johnson or related debris and to report sightings to authorities immediately.
