INDIAN HEAD, Md. — Firefighters with the Tenth District Volunteer Fire Department had a busy start to their Monday, responding to two calls after midnight, including an unusual animal rescue.

Crews were dispatched early March 17, 2025, after a 5-month-old puppy became trapped with its head stuck inside a wheel. Firefighters with Rescue Squad 8, already coming off a structure fire response in Indian Head, arrived on scene and worked quickly to free the distressed pup.

Rather than cutting the wheel, responders used a soapy solution to carefully ease the puppy’s head out, ensuring it remained unharmed.

The rescue was completed without further incident, and the dog was safely reunited with its owner.
