
RIDGE, Md. — A driver escaped serious injury Thursday morning, Oct. 16, 2025, after being trapped when their vehicle struck a tree and overturned along Curleys Road in southern St. Mary’s County.
The crash occurred around 9:22 a.m. in the 49000 block of Curleys Road in Ridge. Firefighters from the Ridge Volunteer Fire Department arrived to find a white Jeep SUV on its side in a ditch after colliding with a tree with the driver was trapped inside.
Crews quickly stabilized the vehicle and extricated the driver within minutes of arriving. Emergency medical personnel evaluated the patient, who declined transport and signed a refusal for further treatment at the scene, according to responders.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to The BayNet that the driver reportedly swerved to avoid a pedestrian walking along the roadway, causing the vehicle to leave the road and crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by police.
