Calvert County DFC P. Wood responded to the pier near Calypso by the Bay Restaurant on Charles Street in Solomons on August 14 shortly after midnight for the report of a drunken individual who had jumped into the water. The subject and another male had been denied access to the establishment because of their inebriated state.
They then attempted to sneak entry but were again denied access. The owner of the restaurant along with some security staff and other citizens were concerned that the subject would drown and attempted to help the subject out of the water. The subject repeatedly swam away eluding help.
A volunteer EMT dove into the water and was able to guide the subject toward the pier where DFC Wood, Dep. S. Economes and several Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad members pulled him from the water. The subject refused to cooperate with police and was rolling around on the ground.
The suspect was subdued and identified as Cory Ronald Finnerty, 23 of Ventura, CA. Finnerty was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and intoxication and endangering the safety of citizens trying to rescue him.
