The Long Island Ducks scored in each of the first three innings and cruised to an 8-3 victory over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at Bethpage Ballpark. The win finishes off a four-game sweep for Long Island and improves their record against Southern Maryland to 6-0.
Southern Maryland has now been swept in two of the past three series and have lost three straight series overall. The Blue Crabs have dropped nine of their last ten games and are just 6-15 in the month of May.
Jared Lansford (1-0) earned his first victory of the season allowed two unearned runs in five innings. Ian Marshall (2-3) suffered his second straight loss for the Blue Crabs lasting just 2.2 innings. He gave up five runs on eight hits in his second loss at the hands of Long Island.
After delivering the game-winning hit last night, Cody Puckett went right to work in the bottom of the 1st with an RBI double that put the Ducks up 1-0.
Adam Bailey led off the 2nd inning with a home run and Fehlandt Lentini added an RBI single later in the inning to push the lead to 3-0. Bailey now has five home runs on the year and hits in eight of his past nine games.
Bailey drove in another run with an RBI single in the 4th inning and Randy Ruiz later scored on Keith Castilloโs sacrifice fly to make it 5-0 Long Island.
Southern Maryland chipped into the lead in the 4th inning after a Long Island defensive mishap. Jon Dziomba reached on an error that allowed Dave Sappelt and Jose Julio-Ruiz to score.
A Sappelt home run got the Crabs within two in the top of the 6th, but the Ducks responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the 6th. Puckett hit his second home run of the series, a two-run shot, to restore the Long Island lead to 7-3.
The Blue Crabs continue their road trip with four games against the Somerset Patriots beginning tomorrow night at 7:05 PM.
