WALDORF, Md. — A garage fire early Wednesday morning damaged a two-story single-family home in Waldorf, prompting a large emergency response but resulting in no reported injuries.
The fire was reported at approximately 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at a residence in the 3500 block of Catskill Street. Smoke was initially seen coming from the garage, and occupants were confirmed to be out of the home as crews arrived.
Responders encountered smoke conditions throughout the structure, with fire later confirmed in the garage area. Command was established, and operations focused on containing the fire, ventilating the home, and checking for extension into walls, the basement, and the attic.

Utilities, including gas and electric service, were secured during the incident. A primary search of the residence was completed with no occupants found inside, and crews continued to address lingering smoke on the first and second floors after the main body of fire was knocked down.
The fire was largely under control by around 6:30 a.m., though personnel remained on scene for overhaul and safety checks. One firefighter was evaluated as a precaution, officials said.
Investigators indicated a space heater in the garage may have been involved, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
The Red Cross was notified to assist two adults displaced by the fire. Most units were released back into service later in the morning.
