WALDORF, Md. – On the evening of July 14, 2025, a two-alarm fire broke out at an apartment building on the 10800 block of Winchester Street in Waldorf, prompting a large response from fire and rescue units across Charles County.

The initial call was received at approximately 7:52 p.m., reporting smoke and flames coming from the roof of a structure initially believed to be near Malvern Street. Responding units corrected the address to Winchester Street and encountered smoke showing from the roof of a multi-unit apartment building upon arrival.

Firefighters located active fire in both the basement vent hall and the attic. A full building evacuation was initiated. Crews manually triggered the alarm and began evacuating residents while initiating interior attack operations.

The incident was upgraded to a working fire shortly after 8:10 p.m. due to fire extension into multiple floors. Apartment units 305, 307, 203, 205, 207, and 209 were among those affected. Forced entry was required in several units to complete searches and firefighting efforts.

One firefighter sustained a minor ankle injury but did not require transport. One resident was assisted from the building and declined EMS evaluation. No other injuries were reported.

Power was secured in several units due to water infiltration from suppression efforts. Thermal imaging checks were performed throughout the structure to confirm containment, and overhaul operations continued with multiple units held on scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
