PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller convened the administration’s cabinet on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, at the Chesapeake Hills Golf Course in Calvert County, marking a stop on the governor’s statewide cabinet meeting road tour.
During his visit, Gov. Moore announced and signed an Executive Order launching the Government Modernization Initiative. This initiative aims to address inefficiencies in state government and reduce taxpayer costs. The state aims to save $50 million in the first year through streamlined operations and cost-saving measures. Gov. Moore emphasized the importance of working with local governments, such as Calvert County, to modernize operations and reduce the budget deficit.
Gov. Moore also had the opportunity to meet with the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and county staff gaining valuable insights into the unique opportunities and challenges faced by Calvert County. County representatives presented an overview of the region’s dynamic growth, emphasizing Calvert’s high quality of life and strategic economic development. “We are deeply appreciative of Gov. Moore’s visit to Calvert County,” said BOCC President Earl F. “Buddy” Hance. “This provided an opportunity for the governor and his staff to gain a better understanding of our rural county, and we look forward to future collaborations that support the well-being of our residents.”
The governor and his cabinet’s itinerary focused on clean energy development, community services, public safety and local infrastructure improvements. Their stops included Constellation Energy’s Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center, and explored local landmarks including Armory Square Pavilion, the Community Resource Hub and Transfer Station, and the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office District 2 Facility. This visit highlights the continued partnership between Governor Moore, the State of Maryland and Calvert County, reflecting the Moore administration’s commitment to collaborating with local governments to drive innovation, enhance state services and ensure that Maryland remains a place where communities can thrive.

How did we go from a 5 billion dollar surplus to a 3 billion dollar deficit in 2 years Governor Moore
Maybe taking his entire cabinet on state tours was not taxpayer money well spent.
In related news, Lizzo meets with local gymnastic leads to teach proper pommel horse techniques.
Please report on the $5 billion dollar surplus that Gov Moore made disappear creating a deficit. I’d like to know if he plans to reduce the cost of car registrations which almost doubled in his first year. Maryland is number 1 when it comes to the most expensive car registration but that’s not a title that I want.
It seems like Gov Moore likes to talk about saving money but then does the opposite. I can only hope he starts being fiscally responsible.
There is talk the sales tax will decrease to pretend we are saving money but increases on state taxes and additional increases will make up for the deception. Point blank, Moore has squandered so much money and has a spending problem for his woke initiatives. The connect Maryland to the internet is a joke, thousands for each house to connect and free computers are given out in the name of ‘equity.’ Moore’s agenda is to make Marylander’s feel we are a racist country and to spend out money on under served with equitable outcomes. What exactly does this mean? Give everything to non-whites?
Keep that “clean energy” crap out of here.
Trying to understand this nightmare Governor’s spending sprees and now telling us how to cut back? Moore raised the already high gas tax in 2023, raised over 300 taxes on Marylanders in 2024 (think vehicle registration fees), raised property taxes over 30 percent, and electric at SMECO despite thousands of solar panels escalated 10.9 percent each month. When does the madness end! BTW- the Battle Creek Nature Center burned in 2022, and it’s just now slated to finally be rebuild three years later. Incompetence!
