Laurel, MD – February 7, 2020 – Despite working two jobs, a Prince George’s County construction worker made time last week to take his son for a haircut. A Maryland Lottery billboard he noticed on the drive to the barbershop inspired a purchase that made his family $50,000 richer.
The 47-year-old husband and father of two was intrigued by the multiplier feature of the scratch-off he saw advertised. The eye-catching game was the 20X The Cash scratch-off.
“I stopped for gas on the way to my second job on Friday and asked if they had the game I’d seen. Luckily for me, they did.” The Laurel resident bought the scratch-off at Laurel Lakes BP and went to work. Hours later, his shift over, the lucky player scratched off the game. He could barely stifle his joy when he uncovered a 10X multiplier poised over a $5,000 prize. He won the game’s top prize!
“It was late and I didn’t want to wake the kids,” he said. “Plus, I wasn’t sure it was real.” Climbing back into his car, he drove to a nearby Lottery retailer to check on his potential big win.
“I scanned the ticket and asked the cashier to check on the machine. Both times, it said $50,000. I woke my wife when I got home and we told the kids the next morning. We’ve all been celebrating ever since.”
The double-duty dad plans to pay off credit cards and other debt with his prize. “Not having to worry about writing those checks every month, never seeming to get ahead of them, will be a huge relief for us.”
The management at Laurel Lakes BP, 13701 Baltimore Avenue in Laurel, also comes out ahead with his win. The Prince George’s County business will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket in the $5 game.
The 20X the Cash game launched on Jan. 20. There are still lots of prizes remaining including seven more $50,000 and 10 $5,000 prizes.
