Heavy Glass Mug, Blood And A $500 Dispute: Huntingtown Man Charged

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — A Huntingtown man is facing felony assault charges after Calvert County Sheriff’s Office investigators alleged he struck a man he worked with in the head during a dispute over money, allegedly leaving the victim with a head laceration that required medical attention, according to court documents.

Travis Donovan Roach, 49, of Huntingtown, was charged in the District Court for Calvert County with first-degree assault and second-degree assault. The charges were filed July 16, 2026, through a statement of charges application. An arrest warrant was issued the same day by Judge Louis Oertly and was served July 18.

According to the application for statement of charges, a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded at approximately 3:14 p.m. July 16 to a residence in Chesapeake Beach for a reported assault.

When deputies arrived, they made contact with the complainant, who reported that her husband had been assaulted. Investigators observed the victim had a laceration and swelling on the left side of his head, blood on one of his hands and an ice pack pressed against the injury.

According to charging documents, the victim identified Roach as the person who assaulted him. He told investigators he owns a contracting business and that Roach had been helping with jobs. The victim alleged Roach came to his residence after noticing newly purchased construction materials and demanded $500, claiming he was owed money for previous work. The victim told deputies any prior payment issues had already been resolved and said he was not going to give Roach additional money. He also stated Roach was not one of his employees but that he had allowed Roach to work on one job.

Court records state the argument began outside the residence before moving into the kitchen and dining area. According to investigators, Roach allegedly threatened to hit the victim before suddenly standing up and striking him on the left side of the head with his fist, causing a laceration that immediately began bleeding. Roach then allegedly picked up a thick glass mug and attempted to strike the victim in the head with it, but the victim was able to avoid the blow.

Investigators described the mug as being made of thick glass and capable of causing serious bodily injury if used to strike someone in the head. According to the charging documents, Roach then began cleaning blood from the scene before leaving the residence.

Deputies photographed the victim’s injuries and the glass mug. Court documents state the head wound might require stitches, and the victim was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Court records show Roach initially was held without bond following his arrest. During a July 20, 2026, bail review, Judge Michelle R. Saunders set bail at a $10,000 percentage bond, which court records indicate was posted with a $1,000 cash deposit, resulting in Roach’s release pending trial. According to court records, he is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 17, 2026, in Calvert County District Court.
