“Hidden Figure” Katherine Johnson Comes To Life Feb. 15 At Maxwell Hall

HUGHESVILLE, Md. — The community is invited to “Meet” Katherine Johnson during a living history performance set for Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Historic Maxwell Hall, 17388 Teagues Point Road, as part of Black History Month programming hosted by the Friends of Maxwell Hall.

The program will feature first-person historical performer Shemika Renee, known as Ms. Story of “Ms. Story’s Living History.” Renee will portray Johnson through storytelling and an interactive question-and-answer session designed for audiences of all ages.

Johnson, whose groundbreaking calculations were critical to early U.S. space missions, gained widespread recognition following the release of the 2016 film Hidden Figures. Organizers said the afternoon will combine history, humor and heartfelt inspiration while highlighting Johnson’s lasting contributions to science and space exploration.

Tickets are required and must be purchased in advance at $25 per person. Admission includes the living history performance and light refreshments at Historic Maxwell Hall.

Renee performs year-round under the name Ms. Story and frequently partners with libraries, museums, schools and historic sites throughout Southern Maryland and beyond.

Those who are unable to attend the “Meet” Katherine Johnson performance still have several upcoming opportunities to see Ms. Story, with multiple events scheduled throughout Southern Maryland in the coming weeks.
