WALDORF, Md. — Invictus II Cigars is preparing to expand after receiving approval from the Charles County Board of License Commissioners on June 11 to double the size of its Waldorf cigar lounge by expanding into the adjacent commercial space.

The board unanimously approved the business’s request to increase its licensed premises from 1,600 square feet to 3,200 square feet, allowing Invictus II to occupy the neighboring unit once it becomes available. According to testimony during the hearing, the additional space is directly adjacent to the existing lounge at 2068 Crain Highway and is approximately the same size as the current location.

During the discussion, board members clarified the expansion does not involve the former Lefty’s building. Instead, the business plans to expand into the neighboring unit on the opposite side of its current location.

Representing Invictus II, attorney David Martinez told the board the adjacent space is expected to become available later this summer after the current tenant vacates.

“The landlord has notified them that the space immediately adjacent to them … is going to become available later on this summer,” Martinez said.

Martinez said the expansion will allow the business to add additional seating, expand its bar area and provide another restroom for patrons. The new space mirrors the existing layout and will effectively double the lounge’s footprint.

Lounge partner Daniel Prater told commissioners the neighboring tenant is expected to remain in the space until approximately Aug. 1, when Invictus II would be able to take possession and begin renovations. Depending on contractor schedules and permitting, the build-out could take anywhere from three weeks to three months.

Prater said the goal is to complete most of the work without disrupting the current business.

“The intent there is to keep the wall up, build out that side, so it will not impact our current business at all,” Prater told the board. “The last thing we’ll do would be those 10 days to take the wall down, get the inspection and then be able to open up the full space.”

The board granted Invictus II until Oct. 8 to obtain the necessary use-and-occupancy approvals and any required permits associated with the expansion.

Cigars Under The Stars Returns

The liquor board also approved temporary expansions of the licensed premises for Invictus II’s popular “Cigars Under the Stars” events, which return this summer.

The outdoor gatherings will be held behind the lounge and allow patrons to enjoy cigars, drinks and music in a temporary fenced area connected to the business’s licensed premises.

Approved event dates are:

  • June 19-20, 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
  • July 24-25, 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Aug. 14-15, 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Sept. 11-12, 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Invictus II Cigars opened in February 2023 and has become a gathering place for cigar enthusiasts from across Southern Maryland. The upcoming expansion will nearly double the lounge’s capacity as the business continues to grow in Waldorf.

Invictus II Cigars is located at 2068 Crain Highway, Waldorf, MD 20601. For more information visit invictusiicigars.com.
