LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — When Lexington Healthcare Training Institute closed its doors in 2018, Southern Maryland lost a local pathway into health care careers.
For years, the school had helped residents gain the training and certifications needed to enter the workforce — often in a matter of months rather than years. Even after the closure, interest from the community never faded.
Now, the institute is open once again in a new facility in Lexington Park, bringing back a familiar name in health care education with a renewed focus on serving local students.
The message from leadership is simple: “We’re back. The wait is over.”
A Career School Built For Community Needs
Lexington Healthcare Training Institute first opened in 2010 as a career school specializing in health care education.
Its programs focus on certification-based training designed to prepare students for health care roles quickly, offering an alternative to longer and more expensive traditional academic programs.
Leadership says the goal is to provide affordable, accessible career training for residents who want to enter the health care field but may not have the time or financial ability to pursue multi-year degrees.
According to institute leadership, no other affordable career schools in the region currently offer this type of health care certification training, making the institute’s reopening especially important for the local workforce.

A Faster Path Into The Workforce
Shorter certification programs can be particularly valuable for working adults, parents and individuals seeking a career change.
Instead of spending years in school, students can focus on hands-on instruction and practical skills that prepare them for employment in the health care field.
Leadership said the institute is designed to help students enter or re-enter the workforce quickly, providing opportunities for individuals who need a faster route to stable employment.
“We’re here to support you,” leadership emphasized.

Experienced Instruction And Academic Leadership
Students at Lexington Healthcare Training Institute learn from instructors with extensive experience in the health care field.
The instructional team brings more than 40 years of nursing experience, allowing students to gain insight from professionals who have spent decades working in patient care.
Leadership also holds advanced academic credentials, including Doctorates of Education (EdD), helping guide the educational structure and standards of the institute’s programs.
Combined with the institute’s more than 16 years of institutional history, that experience supports a learning environment focused on preparing students for real-world health care careers.
State-Approved Training Programs
Lexington Healthcare Training Institute operates with approvals from several Maryland oversight agencies.
The institute is:
• Approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC)
• Approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing
• Listed on the Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL)
These approvals help ensure the institute’s programs meet regulatory standards and support workforce development opportunities across the state.

A Mission Focused On Opportunity
Leadership says the institute’s mission goes beyond enrollment.
The school aims to expand workforce access by providing training opportunities for residents who may not otherwise be able to pursue health care education.
By offering affordable programs and faster certification pathways, Lexington Healthcare Training Institute hopes to help more Southern Maryland residents build stable careers while also helping meet the region’s growing demand for health care professionals.
With its doors open once again, the institute is beginning a new chapter — one shaped by community demand and focused on helping local residents move forward.
