SWAN POINT, Md. — A Lusby man was arrested after authorities allege he broke into the Swan Point Yacht & Country Club pro shop and stole more than $5,300 worth of golf clubs, putters and golf balls.
Garfield Northey, 50, of Lusby, is charged in Charles County District Court with second-degree burglary, theft of $1,500 to under $25,000, and malicious destruction of property valued at $1,000 or more.
According to charging documents, officers responded around 7:25 a.m. on May 4, 2026, to Swan Point Yacht & Country Club on Swan Point Boulevard for a reported burglary. A pro shop manager reported that while opening the shop that morning, he noticed the front door was damaged and items had been stolen.
Surveillance video from inside the pro shop and the main entrance showed the burglary happened late the night before, on May 3, according to the report.
Charging documents state a red truck arrived at the golf club earlier that afternoon. A man got out, removed a golf bag from the vehicle and walked directly toward the golf course. The man returned to the truck later that night.
Shortly afterward, a white pickup truck with a ladder rack pulled up near the red truck, stopped briefly and drove away. The red truck then remained parked until shortly after 9 p.m., when it drove under a carport with its headlights off.
The vehicle was later identified in the report as a Honda Ridgeline with a sunroof and distinct dark aftermarket rims, which helped investigators connect it to the case.
Around 9:32 p.m., the suspect appeared at the pro shop door and used a prying tool to force it open, according to charging documents.
Once inside, authorities allege the suspect stole multiple golf items, including TaylorMade Qi4D drivers, TaylorMade Qi4D fairway woods, TaylorMade putters, a TaylorMade Spider putter, a TaylorMade Spider 2T putter, a TaylorMade PT Ozark putter, a Callaway Odyssey Ai-One putter and six dozen Callaway Chrome Soft golf balls.
The stolen merchandise was valued at approximately $5,313.89. Charging documents also state the damaged door was valued at approximately $3,000.
Investigators later searched Maryland vehicle records and identified Northey as matching the suspect seen in the surveillance footage. Authorities also located a red 2006 Honda Ridgeline registered to Northey.
Investigators conducted surveillance at a Lusby address and observed the red Honda Ridgeline in the driveway. The truck had the same distinct dark aftermarket rims seen in the Swan Point surveillance footage, according to charging documents.
On May 19, 2026, investigators executed a search warrant at the Lusby residence. The red Honda Ridgeline was in the driveway, and Northey was located inside the home before being taken to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office District III Station for an interview.
During the search, detectives recovered the stolen golf clubs and a pry bar, according to charging documents.
After being advised of his rights, Northey agreed to speak with investigators and confessed to the burglary and to stealing the golf clubs and golf balls, according to the report.
Northey was released on recognizance after a bond review on May 19, 2026.
