WALDORF, Md. – On August 13, the CCSO family said farewell to an outstanding police officer as he begins his retirement. Master Corporal Rhett Calloway, #226, is retiring after nearly 28 years of dedicated service to Charles County.

M/Cpl. Calloway began his career with the CCSO on December 27, 1993, as a Correctional Officer. He began his police career in 1994. During his career, he served in Patrol, Community Policing Officer, Instructor for the Criminal Justice Program, Staff Instructor at the academy, Crime Prevention Unit, and School Resource Officer.

M/Cpl. Callowayโs passion for addressing the needs of the community became his ultimate goal. He realized that goal over a career of service to the citizens, the business community, but especially the youth. The community quickly came to realize his worth and expressed that appreciation in letters, tribute, and events for M/Cpl. Calloway. He and his wife, Lori, were always there for the community and the youth he taught through the Criminal Justice Program, on or off duty. M/Cpl. Calloway has left his mark on a number of his criminal justice students, who have gone on to become police officers.

M/Cpl. Calloway was involved in so many facets of the agency and the community to include: member of the Emergency Services Team, the DARE program, Special Olympics, Just Say No drug seminar, Law Enforcement Torch Run, Cops & Lobsters, Relay For Life, CCSO Explorerโs Program, and the Junior Police Academy.ย He received many commendations and awards to include: MSA Deputy of the Year for community service in 2002 and 2016, the Governorโs Crime Prevention Award in 2003, and named โCharles Countyโs Most Beautiful Personโ by the Charles County Commissioners in 2002. That same year, M/Cpl. Calloway, as an EST member, was recognized for his โintegrity and valorโ during a dangerous barricade incident.

In his retirement, he is looking forward to spending more time with his family.
Rhett, we thank you for your amazing career filled with service, dedication, loyalty, and excellence! We are truly going to miss you. You’ll always be part of the CCSO family!
