LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Tattoos, piercings and a shared love for animals will come together in Leonardtown when Misfits for Mutts returns for a second year Sept. 12 and 13.
Blue Scarab Tattoos and Body Piercings is once again partnering with Animal Rescue & Outreach Organization, commonly known as AROO, to raise money and collect supplies for animals at St. Mary’s County Animal Adoption and Resource Center.
The two-day event follows what organizers described as an overwhelming response to the first Misfits for Mutts fundraiser.
“Last time you guys showed up for these pets, and it was amazing,” organizers wrote in announcing the event. “We’re hoping to do it even bigger this time.”
Tattoos And Piercings Support Shelter Animals
During the fundraiser, Blue Scarab will offer $30 piercings, with 50% of the proceeds from each piercing donated to the cause.
The shop will also offer $125 pet-themed flash tattoos and custom paw-print tattoos. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from each participating tattoo will be donated.
Whether visitors choose a piece of animal-inspired artwork or a permanent tribute to a beloved pet, each service will help support animals awaiting homes.

Adoption Gallery Highlights Available Pets
An adoption gallery will feature photographs and stories of animals currently available through St. Mary’s County Animal Adoption and Resource Center.
Visitors will also have opportunities to purchase “Pick a Pet” tickets and sponsor the adoption fee for an animal of their choice. The effort is intended to help reduce the financial barrier for prospective adopters and give participating shelter pets a better chance of finding permanent homes.
AROO representatives will be available during the event to discuss the organization’s mission and ways community members can become involved in supporting local shelter animals.
Donation Drive Offers $10 Discount
Misfits for Mutts will also include a pet pantry donation drive. Visitors who bring an unopened pet item valued at $10 or more will receive $10 off a service or purchase.
Requested donations include:
- Cat and dog food
- Cat litter
- Blankets
- Toys
- Treats
- Other unopened pet supplies
All collected items will benefit animals at St. Mary’s County Animal Adoption and Resource Center.
Community members do not need to receive a tattoo or piercing to participate. Organizers are encouraging residents to bring supplies, learn about available animals, sponsor an adoption fee or simply stop by to show their support.
