ST. LEONARD, Md. — A fast-moving fire tore through a campground in Calvert County on Dec. 30, 2025, destroying multiple trailers and displacing a family.
Members of the St. Leonard Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company were dispatched at about 4:07 p.m. to a reported trailer fire at Patuxent Camp Sites, located on Williams Wharf Road in St. Leonard.
Chief 7B established command and requested additional resources as crews encountered rapidly spreading flames throughout the campground. Firefighters found at least 4 campers and multiple vehicles involved, creating what officials described as a challenging incident due to the size and scope of the fire.

A working fire dispatch was requested to increase staffing and ensure sufficient emergency medical services were available. Firefighters from Prince Frederick, Solomons, Huntingtown, Dunkirk, and Calvert County EMS assisted at the scene.
No injuries were reported, officials said, but one family and their dog were displaced as a result of the fire.
Fire crews later returned to the campground to investigate and extinguish several rekindle fires, officials said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

In a statement, officials with the St. Leonard Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company thanked their volunteers and assisting agencies for their response.
“We are grateful for and deeply appreciative of the support and assistance provided by our volunteers and mutual aid companies,” the department said. “We are a proud and dedicated team of all volunteers, committed to serving and protecting our community.”
