PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Inc. (CAASA) has been awarded $5,819 in fiscal year 2026 grant funding from the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office to support impaired driving outreach and education in Calvert County.

The funds will be used to expand CAASA’s prevention and education efforts, including:

  • Supporting DUI Simulator activities at local high schools to help students understand the dangers of impaired driving.
  • Purchasing impaired driving goggles for use as a hands-on teaching tool by local D.A.R.E. officers.
  • Expanding DUI awareness outreach efforts in the community.
  • Recognizing local law enforcement for their commitment to roadway safety.
  • Providing staff training to strengthen prevention programming.

“Impaired driving continues to be a serious threat to the safety of our community,” said Kimberly Shoe, president of the CAASA Board of Directors. “Thanks to the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office, we can engage youth, families, and the broader community with interactive tools and educational programs that highlight the real-life dangers of driving under the influence.”

CAASA said it remains committed to working in partnership with schools, law enforcement and community organizations to reduce impaired driving and keep Calvert County roadways safe.
