Prince Frederick, MD – Day one of 2017 got off to a swift start for 105 runners and walkers who participated in the annual Resolution 5 Kilometer (K) race in Prince Frederick. Those who opted to bypass what is arguably the biggest sleep-in day of the year included residents of the five regional counties plus visitors from Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina.

The race was sponsored by the Southern Maryland Community Network (SMCN), which has hosted the event for the past decade. Proceeds benefit SMCN’s mental health programs and a portion is also allocated to the Erica Weems Scholarship Fund.

Finishing fourth was the top female racer, Parker O’Brien, 12 of Leonardtown, who logged a time of 20 minutes and 28 seconds.

It should be noted that four of the top 10 finishers in the race were men over 50.

After the race, runners, walkers and spectators were served hot soup, which is a Resolution 5K tradition. The race was timed by the Chesapeake Bay Running Club. The club has complete race results on its web site
