At 2:14 p.m. on May 11, 2011, companies 1, 19, 5, 59, 6, 7, 79, and 9 were dispatched for the commercial building fire at the Carter Building on the 23000 block of Leonard Hall Drive. Initial reports were that their was smoke coming from the ceiling on the 2nd floor of the building. Chief 1 arrived at 2:15 to find a strong odor of smoke and light smoke in a room with no definitive source. Engine 72 arrived on scene and secured a hydrant while Engine 11 hooked in to the sprinkler system and a second hydrant as a precaution. First crews on the scene entered in to the building to search the building with thermal imaging equipment. Fire crews cleared the building and turned it over to the county building services.
Responding units were from Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department, Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad, Seventh District Volunteer Fire Department, Seventh District Volunteer Rescue Squad, Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad, and Bay District Volunteer Fire Department Station 9. Units operated on scene for approximately 35 minutes with no reported injuries
