Update (September 8, 2021): The Anne Arundel County Police Department investigates any reported act which appears to be motivated, or perceived by the reporting person to be motivated, all or in part, by hatred toward or bias against an individual or group on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, gender, gender identity, or homelessness.
The investigation into these circumstances revealed the piece of twine attached to the historical marker was in place the day marker was dedicated and was apparently being used to hold a floral arrangement in place.
SEVERNA PARK, Md. — On September 5, 2021, at approximately 11 a.m. officers responded to the Severna Park Library located at 43 West McKinsey Road for a vandalism to the “Lynching in Anne Arundel County” historical marker.
A citizen was walking by when they noticed a piece of twine hanging under the sign that appeared to be in the shape of a noose.
Officers and supervision responded to the scene. Evidence Collection Units processed the scene and Eastern District Detectives are investigating.
