UPDATE: At approximately 11:41 p.m., the fire departments on scene terminated command, and turned the scene over to police to begin an investigation of the accident. The patient is currently being transported to a nearby trauma center by the Maryland State Police’s Trooper 7. Budds Creek Road will remain closed for the investigation. Expect to use detours if traveling in the area.

The State Highway Administration and St. Mary’s County’s Emergency Services have been requested to come light the scene of the investigation.

UPDATE: At approximately 11:34 p.m. the search of the surrounding area for additional patients turned out to be negative.

UPDATE: At approximately 11:21 p.m., units completed an extrication of the patient in the vehicle. The car is reported to have split nearly in half after striking a tree and utility pole, separating the front and rear portions of the vehicle in the road by nearly 250 feet.

CHAPTICO, Md. — We are receiving reports of a serious motor vehicle crash in the area of Horseshoe Road and Budds Creek Road which has one patient in critical condition.

At approximately 10:58 p.m. on April 2, crews were dispatched to reports of a vehicle which had gone off the road, leaving one patient in grave condition.

Police arrived to the scene to discover a vehicle which was severely damaged and a single patient trapped inside. Police are searching the scene to determine if any other occupants may have been ejected from the vehicle.

A medical evacuation by helicopter has been requested for the single patient, as their condition worsens.

As of 11:14 p.m. the Maryland State Police Trooper 7 helicopter is en route to an established landing zone at Belmont Farms. Trooper 7 has been requested to complete a thermal scan of the area prior to landing, in effort to find if any other potential occupants may have been ejected at the scene.

SMECO has been alerted to assist on the scene after being notified of a broken power line.
