LEONARDTOWN, Md. — St. Mary’s County Sheriff Steve Hall has filed to seek a second term in office, formally launching his reelection bid, his campaign announced Friday, February 6, 2026.
Hall, who began his law enforcement career with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office more than three decades ago, was first elected sheriff in 2022, winning by a wide margin.
“Being sheriff is about serving the people of St. Mary’s County,” Hall said in a statement. “I have made the public safety of St. Mary’s County and its citizens the center of my life. Earning the public’s trust has guided my work every step of the way.”
Since taking office, Hall has led the sheriff’s office through a period marked by staffing challenges and evolving public safety demands, while emphasizing professionalism, accountability, and community trust, according to his campaign.
“We have worked together. That work matters and has had amazing results,” Hall said. “You have my solemn commitment to continue building on those successes and working toward an even brighter future for St. Mary’s County.”
Hall said he is seeking continued support from county residents as he campaigns for a second term.
“We are heading in the right direction,” he said, “and I would be honored to earn your vote.”
The primary election is scheduled for June 23, 2026, with the general election set for Nov. 3, 2026.

Steve Hall, I am happy to see you are running for Sherriff again. I have seen many improvements. The drive by shootings in Great mills were a daily occurrence for a while and are gone. The car jackings around FDR & Sheetz are gone. The Road cops are actively enforcing traffic laws. The investigators are getting the drugs and illegal weapons off the street with the help of the States Attorney. We are defiantly headed in the right direction.
