WALDORF, Md. — A Washington, D.C. man has been charged with theft following an incident at a home improvement store in Waldorf, according to court records.
The suspect was identified as Francis Edward Robinson, 60, of Washington, D.C. Charging documents state the alleged theft occurred on Jan. 13, 2026, at a Home Depot location on Jefferson Farm Place.
According to a statement of probable cause, Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the store for a reported theft. Store loss prevention personnel reported that a suspect placed multiple boxes of flooring into a shopping cart and pushed the cart past all points of sale without paying.
Investigators said the suspect left the store and entered the front passenger seat of a silver Range Rover before the vehicle exited the parking lot. Deputies later located the vehicle in the area and conducted a traffic stop.
Police reported that Robinson was identified as the front passenger during the stop. A search and subsequent investigation determined the merchandise involved consisted of six boxes of flooring with a combined value between $100 and $1,500.
Court records indicate Robinson denied stealing the items and stated he left the merchandise in the cart at the store. However, law enforcement reported that store security footage and photographs were reviewed and used to identify Robinson as the suspect.
Robinson was charged with one misdemeanor count of theft of property valued between $100 and under $1,500 under Maryland law.
Court records show Robinson was released on an unsecured personal bond of $200, which was posted the same day. A trial-related officer scheduling hearing is set for March 3 in Charles County District Court.
