Speed And Alcohol Suspected In Charlotte Hall Fatal Crash

UPDATE – 9/4,/2024 – The driver and sole occupant of the 2021 Nissan Armada involved in Sunday evening’s fatal car crash has been identified as 64-year-old Melvin Leon Elem of Baltimore, MD.

CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. – At approximately 7:01 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2024, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a reported single-car collision in the center median in the area of Route 5 and Oak Station Drive in Charlotte Hall, MD.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 2021 Nissan Armada with extensive damage, indicating that the vehicle had flipped over. The sole occupant, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Due to the nature of the accident, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Unit has assumed the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.

  1. I witnessed this accident and was on with 911 when this person wrecked. The vehicle did not roll over. It hit the culvert, cleared the turnabout and slammed down on all 4 tires and crushed the roof. The car has to be at least 20′-30′ in the air. Never saw anything like it and have been trying to deal with what I saw since yesterday. RIP

    1. Yeah all of which could have been prevented had he 1. Not been speeding and 2. Not been intoxicated. He could have harmed many others do to his lack of following laws..especially drinking and driving. Dumb decisions usually lead to some kind of consequence.
