LEONARDTOWN, Md. — The St. Mary’s County Commission for Women has recognized Kaitlin Fraer as one of its Women of the Year for 2026, highlighting her leadership in community advocacy, youth support and local food initiatives during Women’s History Month.

Fraer’s work spans nonprofit leadership, education and agricultural initiatives that connect families, students and community organizations throughout Southern Maryland.

She currently serves as vice president of PFLAG Southern Maryland, a nonprofit organization that supports LGBTQ+ families across St. Mary’s County, Calvert County and Charles County.

In that role, Fraer volunteers her time facilitating youth support groups and organizing educational events designed to help local organizations and community members better understand and support LGBTQ+ families. She has also played a key role in strengthening the organization’s fundraising efforts through grant writing and reporting.

Beyond her nonprofit work, Fraer contributes to local education and agriculture initiatives. She serves as chair of the Maryland School Nutrition Association and coordinates the Farm to School program for St. Mary’s County Public Schools, helping connect locally grown food from regional farms with school cafeterias across the county.

Her efforts help strengthen partnerships between farmers, school systems and families while promoting access to fresh, locally sourced food for students.

Fraer also serves on the county’s Agriculture, Seafood and Forestry Board, where she collaborates with community members and industry leaders to support and promote the region’s agricultural economy.

Her dedication to service and collaboration was highlighted by nominator Paul Quade.

“Kaitlin’s commitment to the community has improved the mental health and livelihood of families across Southern Maryland,” Quade wrote in the nomination statement. “She has empowered others in her community to prioritize their own mental health and take steps to improve that of others. She believes in collaboration and has broadened the reach of PFLAG’s mission by working with other nonprofits, organizations and businesses across Southern Maryland.”

Quade also noted Fraer’s passion for strengthening connections within the community through food programs and agricultural partnerships.

“Her passion for feeding families has led to connections between school district employees, families, students and community members in addition to local businesses and farmers,” he wrote.

The Commission for Women congratulated Fraer for her contributions and thanked her for the work she continues to do in support of families, youth and the broader community.

As St. Mary’s County celebrates Women’s History Month, leaders say Fraer’s recognition reflects the impact of individuals who dedicate their time and talents to building stronger and more connected communities.
