St. Mary’s Offers Inclusive Aquatics Program For Youth With Disabilities

LEONARDTOWN, Md. — St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks is set to begin its next Adaptive Aquatics sessions this August, offering an inclusive swim program tailored for children and teens with disabilities.

The five-week course begins Thursday, Aug. 7, and will be held every Thursday evening through Sept. 4. Participants are grouped by age, with each class offering a 30-minute session per week:

  • Adaptive Aquatic Adventures (ages 4–7)
  • Adaptive Aquatic Explorers (ages 8–11)
  • Adaptive Aquatic Divers (ages 12–18)

Each group is designed to meet swimmers at their individual level, focusing on water safety, comfort, and skill development in a supportive environment. The registration fee is $125 for the full five-week program.

Private adaptive lessons are also available in 30- and 60-minute options, with sessions offered at both the Leonardtown and Great Mills pools. These one-on-one classes use a punch-pass system and are ideal for families seeking personalized instruction.

The Wellness & Aquatics Center, located on the College of Southern Maryland’s Leonardtown campus, features a 25-yard lap pool, a warm-water therapy pool with zero-depth entry, weight and cardio areas, and group fitness studios. The facility operates Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.

Registration is now open and space is limited. Families are encouraged to sign up early: https://tinyurl.com/22dpwjkk
