Preparations Are Underway for Another Storm Tonight
The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is cleaning up from Thursday’s storm while tracking another storm expected tonight.
“Crews are working on clearing primary and secondary roads, as well as fully clearing ramps,” says Administrator Melinda B. Peters. “We are monitoring the weather forecast closely. We’re expecting a few inches of snow tonight.”
If you’re planning to drive this morning, please be sure to remove all snow and ice from your vehicle before heading out. When driving, please keep your speed down and leave plenty of room between vehicles. With air and pavement temperatures below freezing in many spots, you may encounter ice.
This morning you will find “hard pack” on a few stretches of I-70 and US 29. Hard pack is caused by a sudden burst of snow combined with rapidly falling pavement temperatures. SHA crews treated the hard pack on I-70 near MD 97, as well as on US 29 between MD 108 and US 29, with liquid magnesium. The chemical will cause the ice to break up when the sun rises.
