SEVERN, Md. — Two men were arrested on March 18, 2025, following a traffic stop in Anne Arundel County, where authorities discovered an illegal firearm and determined one of the occupants had multiple outstanding warrants.
Detectives with the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Western District pulled over a silver Nissan Rogue at approximately 5:35 p.m. on Maryland Route 32 near Laurel Fort Meade Road in Severn. During the stop, investigators found a “ghost gun” — an unserialized 9mm Polymer 80 handgun — loaded with 23 rounds of ammunition in possession of the front-seat passenger.
The passenger, identified as Ibn Muta Ali Wright, 18, of Pasadena, is prohibited from possessing firearms and was taken into custody. He faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a minor, illegal possession of ammunition, and multiple handgun-related offenses. Wright is currently being held without bond, according to court records.
The vehicle’s driver, Kiyewon Edward Barnes, 29, of Germantown, was also arrested after officers discovered he had multiple outstanding warrants. Court records indicate Barnes had been wanted for probation violations following a failure to appear in court for a theft case dating back to December 2022. He remains in custody without bond, held by order of Frederick County Circuit Court Judge Julia A. Minner.
Barnes has a history of legal troubles. In December 2020, he pleaded guilty in Montgomery County to conspiracy to commit robbery and attempting to influence a juror, receiving an 11-year sentence that was suspended to three years of supervised probation. In December 2021, he pleaded guilty in Frederick County to second-degree assault, receiving a five-year sentence, suspended to two years of probation. Both cases were recently reopened due to his probation violations.
Court records show Barnes failed to appear for a scheduled hearing on June 23, 2023.
Both suspects remain in custody as they await court proceedings.
