LUSBY, Md. — Calvert County Parks and Recreation (CCPR) is still looking for build-day volunteers to help make the Cove Point Park playground a reality.
“This hands-on project is a chance to roll up your sleeves, work alongside neighbors and make a lasting impact in your community. No construction experience is needed, just a willingness to help and be part of something meaningful,” CCPR wrote in a Facebook post.
The build will take place from Tuesday, May 19, to Thursday, May 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cove Point Park, located at 750 Cove Point Rd., Lusby. Breakfast, lunch and water will be provided, as well as glasses and safety materials for projects that require them. Volunteers will also receive a T-shirt to wear during the event.
CCPR needs a total of approximately 190 volunteers. Work is available for all skill levels and abilities, although those under the age of 18 will not be able to participate in building in the construction area. There will be youth activities available.
The playground build is a partnership between Calvert County Government, Constellation Energy and partners, and KABOOM! KABOOM! is a national nonprofit dedicated to building playgrounds in communities.
Construction Week will culminate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the job. This ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 21, at 2:30 p.m. and will last approximately 20 minutes.
The proposed KABOOM! playground is a separate project from the larger playground project also taking place at Cove Point Park.
Residents may recognize the name KABOOM! from an episode of the popular show “Parks and Recreation.” So now can be the time to make your television fandom dreams come true and help brighten the community.
Any interested volunteers can go online to sign up or learn more about the event and the build schedule.
