CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. — Weis Markets opened its newest supermarket with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday in Charlotte Hall, announcing community donations and previewing a 60,000-plus-square-foot store. Weis Markets’ 51st Maryland location, at 30015 Three Notch Road, opened to shoppers Thursday.
The store will employ more than 180 full- and part-time associates, bolstering the local economy, according to County Commissioner President Randy Guy.

The store includes a market-style produce department, full-service meat and seafood counters, in-store sushi, a deli with heat-and-serve meals, a wide selection of organic and natural items, a Starbucks kiosk with mobile ordering, a drive-thru pharmacy and a six-pump “Gas N’ Go,” where customers can redeem points for fuel discounts. Online shoppers can use Weis 2 Go for curbside pickup or delivery.
St. Mary’s County Commissioner Mike Alderson, who represents the northern district, said the new store fills a long-standing need for families in Charlotte Hall and surrounding areas. He noted that the location will also draw customers from southern Charles County, easing pressure on existing grocery options.

Alderson highlighted the employment opportunities created by the new Weis Markets location, pointing out that roughly 70 percent of the workforce are St. Mary’s County residents. He added that the store provides a great opportunity for job seekers and that grocery retail jobs can also serve as steppingstones into stable professional management careers.
Alderson also emphasized the importance of fresh food access in a rural county, and how building a circular economy includes locally grown foods in grocery stores — supporting not only consumers, but Maryland farmers as well.
“SMADC (Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission), which is a division of our Tri-County Council, has a program to work with the grocery stores to funnel fresh local produce into the stores without harming the farmers markets,” Alderson said.
Community Connections, Recognitions and Modern Online Grocery Shopping

Weis Markets used the ceremony to gift community donations. Store Manager Robbie Polk presented $1,500 donations to the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, Chopticon High School and the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department. He also presented a $10,000 donation to the Maryland Food Bank in support of its work in St. Mary’s County.

During official remarks, Jonathan Weis, chairman, president and CEO of Weis Markets, said the store reflected a modern design and added that the architecture was designed with intention, boasting the new market as the front porch of the community. He also emphasized the company’s sustainability upgrades, including daylighting, energy-efficient LED lighting and modern CO2 refrigeration systems that use significantly less harmful refrigerants than conventional supermarket systems.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony drew St. Mary’s County and State of Maryland leaders, including Commissioner Mike Alderson, Commissioner Mike Hewitt, County Administrator David Weiskopf and Planning Commission Chair Howard Thompson, along with representatives from the offices of U.S. Rep. Steny Hoyer and the Maryland General Assembly.

“To Mr. Weis and the entire Weis corporation, thank you so much for investing in this community, thank you for providing the jobs and the services,” said Matt Morgan, Maryland House of Delegates (District 29A, St. Mary’s County). “On behalf of the Maryland General Assembly, our sincerest congratulations are offered to Weis Markets in recognition of their grand opening and ribbon cutting.”

For many residents, the opening means shorter drives for full-service grocery shopping and pharmacy needs, as well as a new regional option just south of the Charles County line. The site also adds fuel service, and the store was designed to support modern online ordering with its large capacity.

Weis Markets also announced the first local Weis 2 Go order that would be delivered to the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, bolstering legitimacy to the store’s intentions as a community asset.
Store Manager Robbie Polk, a longtime local with family roots in St. Mary’s County, said the new Weis location was designed with freshness and variety in mind. He noted that the large square footage of the store allows them to offer more, including a very large produce department and a full-service online grocery shopping experience with “Weis 2 Go.”

“We set up our facility here to be… larger, which provides us the opportunity to be able to provide more [online] orders on a consistent basis and hopefully more convenience to our customers,” Polk said. “I know a lot of our customers are on the go, just like we are — we’re always on the go. So, online grocery shopping just provides that option for them.”
The “Weis 2 Go” app allows curbside pickup and delivery, giving residents flexible options for groceries.

I hope their produce is good enough to give the guy at Southern MD Produce a run for his money… Maybe he’ll start treating his employees better!
Another gas station for Charlotte Hall! Yay!
I hope they don’t sell spoiled Milk like the one in Lexington park in the Square.
Nice place, like any other Weis. However, the parking lot is horrid. Why put your gas station in the way and in the parking lot? They should have done like Callaway and put it off to the side. Horrible design on the parking.
Yeah I agree. The guy at SOMD produce is not very friendly lol. He stares at you the whole time you’re there worried to death you will steal a plum lol. Unbelievable
