ย At 12:25 p.m. Jan. 4, volunteer firefighters and rescue squad members in Northern Calvert County were dispatched to an apartment fire on Fairground Road, Prince Frederick.
ย According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office, the fire in a second-floor apartment started from unattended cooking in the kitchen.
ย First-arriving fire units saw smoke coming from the building and once inside encountered fire in the kitchen, extending to the attic and living room areas, reports Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Chiefย Jonathan Riffe.
ย Within 5 minutes the flames were dispatched.
ย A total of 25 firefighters arrived on scene from Prince Frederick, Huntingtown, St. Leonard and Benedict volunteer fire companies.
ย The fire resulted in an estimated $25,000 in damage, reports Deputy Fire Marshal John Nelson.
ย The sole occupant, Ryshawn Brooks, was displaced by the fire and is being assisted by the American Red Cross, Southern Maryland chapter.
