Shortly before 5 pm. Nov. 20, firefighters from Hollywood, Mechanicsville and Leonardtown were dispatched to a reported fire in the apartments next to Laurel Grove Station.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the attic.

Once inside, units advised that they had visible smoke in the structure and at that time Hollywood units began to cut holes in the roof to gain access to see if they could find anything, reports Firefighter Ernest Rogers.

Hollywood firefighters made access to the roof from the interior and found it to be embers burning and the attic charged with smoke.

Rogers reports that a state Fire Investigator and SMECO were called as the fire was believed to have been triggered by an electrical failure.

Firefighters worked at the scene for more than an hour.
