Source: Calvert County Oct. 28 Meeting | Commissioners vote on salary increases

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Calvert Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) agreed with the compensation committee’s recommendations at the Oct. 28 meeting to increase several salaries. The increases will have to be approved by the Maryland General Assembly in 2026 to take effect. If approved, they will be official as of the swearing in of the offices in 2026. Under this new plan, county commissioners, Board of Education (BOE) members, and the county treasurer will receive salary increases.

Commissioners currently receive a salary of $48,000, which will increase to $53,000 in 2026, effective upon swearing in. The BOCC president will receive an increase from $50,500 to $58,000.

BOE members currently receive a salary of $6,500. Members will see an increase to $7,500, while the BOE chair’s salary will increase to $8,500.

Notably, the compensation committee recommended converting the county treasurer role to a full-time position with a salary of $115,000, up from $57,500, effective in 2026 upon swearing in. The treasurer will also be able to access the same benefits as all other full-time county employees.

The plan was put together by an independent compensation committee, consisting of county employees and members of organizations that work with county officials or programs. The compensation committee didn’t recommend any further changes and said that the updates were based on salary data in the county and from comparable positions in nearby counties, particularly when determining the full-time salary for the treasurer.

The commissioners commended the committee for their work and noted that they pulled in voices from across the county and political parties. Ashley Staples-Reid, special projects program manager, said that the committee benefitted from high meeting participation and collaboration.
