The St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations is an investigative team comprised of Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown.
The St. Mary’s County Office of Professional Responsibilities in cooperation with the St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal investigations conducted a joint investigation into allegation of sexual contact between a St. Mary’s County Correction’s employee and an inmate.
On June 18, the St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigation charged Deborah Anne Bartholow, 44 of Mechanicsville, on a District Court Criminal Summons with “sexual contact between a corrections officer and a confined inmate”. The maximum sentence for a person convicted of this offense is imprisonment not to exceed 3 years and a fine not to exceed $3,000 or both.
Deborah Bartholow has been a Correctional Officer for 4 years with the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Bartholow has been suspended from her duties without pay pending the completion of this matter. Both investigations are still on going.
