WALDORF, Md. – On August 16, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office said farewell to another member of our family as he begins his retirement after an outstanding career: Lieutenant Jon Burroughs, #354. Lt. Burroughs has served Charles County for 21 years, and served with the City of Decatur Police in Atlanta, GA for 4 years prior to his career here, for a total of 25 years of service in law enforcement!

In his career, Lt. Burroughs has worked in the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, FBI Baltimore Field Office – Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the Special Operations Division.

Lt. Burroughs says his greatest accomplishment was being elected as Class President Session 438 of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command. His favorite memory from his time with CCSO was attending basic motor officer school with the U.S. Park Police Department… in the freezing rain for two weeks.

Outside of work, Lt. Burroughs spends time with his children and volunteers in their many activities. He loves to travel, having visited 31 states and four countries so far, and plans to do a lot more of that in retirement. Fun fact: he is learning French and planning a 2022 trip to Paris and Bordeaux!

Jon, congratulations on an amazing career marked with dedication and achievement. We are going to miss you. You’ll always be part of our family!
