Annapolis, MD – The Maryland Clean Marina Program recently marked 20 years of successful implementation. The program began in 1997 with an advisory committee developed by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in cooperation with the Marine Trades Association of Maryland.

This group of dedicated, professional boatyard and marina operators from around the state met for over a year with state government staff, consultants and academics to produce the Maryland Clean Marina Guidebook, the Award Checklist, and all the educational items we produce for boaters.

With program materials finalized, staff set about certifying the first Clean Marinas in 1999. The inaugural class of Maryland Clean Marinas is listed below and all of them remain certified today!

Port Annapolis Marina, Herrington Harbour Marinas, Spring Cove Marina, Solomons; Haven Harbour Marina, Rock Hall; Baltimore Yacht Club, Fort Washington Marina, Hinckley Yacht  Services (formerly Crocket Brothers), Oxford; Magothy Marina, Arnold; Locust Point Marina, Elkton.

Spin Sheet magazine covered the 20-year anniversary of the Clean Marina Program in their March issue. To read the article either pick up a copy or you can visit their web site.
