Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), a national chair of the Hillary for President presidential campaign, released the following statement today:

“I have been so proud and honored to serve as national co-chair for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.  The respect and admiration I had for Hillary before this process has only increased.  We have all seen what she is made of: unflinching and unflagging.  She is an agent of change, fighting so everyone has the freedom to achieve.

“Today, I am equally proud to join Hillary in my enthusiastic endorsement of Barack Obama for President.  This is truly a historic event.  Senator Obama and his supporters should savor this tremendous accomplishment.  We have seen record turnout, a spirited campaign and a debate on the issues that matter to the American public.

“I will cast my vote for Barack at the Democratic Convention but, long before August, I will lend my voice and energy to his campaign.  We need a President who will bring our troops home safely and swiftly, and get our economy back on track.  I believe we are on a historic journey to change the direction of this country. “
