Traffic on Route 5 was backed up from Chingville to Great Mills on Thursday afternoon after a single vehicle crash.
The crash was reported to police shortly after 3:45 p.m. Volunteer Firefighters and ambulance crews from Lexington Park and Valley Lee VFD arrived to find a single vehicle had crashed and overturned.
Within 15 minutes firefighters freed the injured mother from the vehicle. The female was reportedly pregnant and 37 years old.
Valley Lee Volunteer Rescue Squad Ambulance 67 was first on the scene and immediately took care of the 14-month-old and prepared the child for the fly-out.
By 4:05 p.m. Trooper 7 helicopter landed close to the scene. The infant was flown to Childrenโs Hopsital, and the mother was taken to Medstar, both in DC. It is protocol to fly-out a child of that age in this crash.
