Barstow, MD –ย The 2015 Calvert County Fairโ€™s opening night Wednesday, Sept. 30 had better than anticipated attendance. Some fair officials believe the reason for the bigger crowd was the fear the weather would detract from the enjoyment.ย

Despite a light drizzle, attendees were able to enjoy the carnival rides, sample fair favorites like French fries, funnel cake, fried chicken and hot dogs.

Miss Tranquility 2015 Meredith Prouty-Due and Lord Calvert 2015 Joshua Oursler presided over the festivities. Calvert County Commissioners’ President Steve Weems offered greetings to the attendees during the opening ceremonies.

The National Weather Service has forecast heavy rains and high winds for Friday, Oct. 2, the day the fairโ€™s popular Youth Day is scheduled to be held.
While some of the fairโ€™s outdoor activities for Youth Day could be weather-challenged, live entertainment at the outdoor pavilion will be under roof.ย  The schedule has the Calvert School of Dance performing at 10:30 a.m., the Julie Rogers Studio of Dance scheduled for a 1:15 p.m. performance, the Black Belt Academy of Martial Arts demonstrating its skills at 2 p.m., comedy illusionist Reggie Rice performing at 2:30 p.m. and the Diane Herbert Studio of Dance slated for a 3:10 p.m. performance.

The Calvert County Idol contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday evening with the finals to be held Saturday evening, Oct. 3.

The county fair is an agricultural exposition and 4-H youth will be center-stage Saturday at 6 p.m. with the popular Livestock Auction.
