In response to ongoing flood problems, the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office is working cooperatively with Charles County roads personnel to close the roadways with high water levels.

According to the Sheriffโ€™s Office and the Charles County Department of Emergency services, the following roadways were closed to non-residential traffic as of this morning:

  • Billingsley Road at Duttonโ€™s Bridge
  • Brandywine Road at the bridge
  • Bumpy Oak Road
  • Fenwick Road
  • Petzold Drive
  • Pisgah Marbury Road
  • Rose Hill Road
  • Route 224 at Reeder Place
  • Route 224 at Route 225
  • Route 224 at Route 227
  • Route 227 at Phillips Road
  • Route 425 at Bicknell Mount Ridge
  • Route 6 at Port Tobacco Road
  • Route 925 at Terrace Drive
  • Spring Hill Newtown Road
  • Turkey Hill Road

More or fewer roadways may be closed as conditions change. Officers are patrolling the county and responding to citizensโ€™ calls for flooding concerns. Signs have been posted and cones have been placed throughout the county to prohibit vehicles from traveling in affected areas. Officers have issued citations to a handful of motorists who have attempted to travel closed roads. Officers have also rescued at least five motorists who became stranded trying to drive through high water. There were no injuries. Additionally, there have been few crashes during the period of heavy rain.

Areas of other roads in the area are experiencing an accumulation of high water in spots but remain open. Motorists are urged to drive with extreme caution. Do not attempt to cross an area of high water under any circumstances. Motorists are additionally reminded to turn on their headlights and drive slowly. No motorists should attempt to travel through any area of high water.
