State officials conducted investigations of separate vehicle fires that occurred in Charles County during the past three days.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze that destroyed a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe Friday, March 21 was the result of an accidental electrical fire that originated in the engine compartment. The fire occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Berry Road and Route 301 in Waldorf and was discovered by a Charles County sheriff’s deputy on routine patrol.

Five Waldorf firefighters were dispatched to the scene and had the blaze under control in two minutes. “The vehicle was being driven at the time the fire ignited,” Dfm. Don Brenneman stated. “The fire destroyed the vehicle and there were no injuries reported as a result.” The damage estimate is $5,000, authorities reported.

A 2005 Chevrolet Impala was destroyed by fire Sunday evening, March 23 around 10:30 p.m., state officials reported. The blaze occurred on Starling Drive in Waldorf. “The cause of the fire remains under investigation,” stated Dfm. Melissa Bean, who reported the blaze was discovered by a passerby.

Five Waldorf firefighters were dispatched to the scene and had the flames under control in five minutes. No injuries were reported and the estimated damage was $2,500. Bean reported the fire originated inside the vehicle. Anyone with information on the Impala fire is asked to contact the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Southern Regional Office at 443-550-6834.
