MARYLAND – On April 8th, all eyes, with eye protection, of course, will be looking to the sky. Several businesses across the state are holding watch parties for the Solar Eclipse, including Calvert Library.

While North Beach is not in the direct path, it’s predicted that the area should have about 80% coverage, so the library is offering up a limited number of solar eclipse glasses and encouraging people to come to the North Beach Boardwalk. Glasses will be available starting at 2 pm.

In Annapolis, Watermark Tours is holding a 90-minute solar eclipse cruise! Annapolis is expected to see the moon cover 88% of the sun at the peak of the eclipse. Eclipse viewing glasses are included, as well as spacey music and a fun, themed cocktail. Tickets are $40/adult and $20/child and can be purchased here.

Another Annapolis business is hoping the non-profit organization Eileen’s Eyes will benefit from the solar eclipse. Shades of the Bay, at 136 Main Street, is fully stocked with solar eclipse glasses and will give all proceeds of sales to the non-profit that helps with ocular melanoma research.

A quick search on Facebook shows several places holding watch parties and offering special deals to celebrate the astronomical phenomenon.
